Microgaming pokies NZ: games, Games Global and casino checks
Microgaming is a familiar name on older pokies reviews and casino filters. To understand a game today, look beyond that label to its full title, credited studio, distribution details and actual rules.
This guide explains the company names, recognisable game families, RTP, jackpots and mobile checks. The four-casino comparison contains general offers; it does not confirm that every featured operator carries the games discussed here.
Microgaming, Games Global and Apricot: read the names carefully
Older reviews can combine a developer brand, a content distributor and a casino platform under the same heading. That shorthand is not enough to identify who made a particular game or which rules apply to its current edition.
Games Global’s announcement dated 3 May 2022 describes its operational launch following acquisition of Microgaming’s distribution business, game IP and progressive jackpot network, alongside interests in studios. That is a useful reference for the historic catalogue.
Microgaming also remains in use as a website brand. On 29 October 2026, the original Microgaming domain redirected to an active Microgaming website presenting games and studios. Meanwhile, Apricot’s website describes its casino platform business.
| Name or role | Useful context | Player check |
|---|---|---|
| Microgaming label | Historic references and a current branded game website. | Which full game and edition does the lobby mean? |
| Games Global | The announced 2022 acquisition and its studio portfolio. | Which studio and product are credited now? |
| Apricot platform | Casino platform services described by Apricot. | Distinguish platform provision from a game’s rules. |
| Casino operator | The service holding the player account and cashier. | Account, payment, eligibility and withdrawal conditions. |
Why a lobby filter is not a complete specification
A casino may retain an older provider category while a game’s opening screen credits an individual studio. Search by the complete title and read its information screen rather than guessing from the filter.
The casino software guide explains developers, distributors and platforms in more detail. None of those labels alone verifies an operator’s licensing, payment reliability or suitability for an NZ account.
Recognisable games and the editions behind the names
The useful comparison is between specific releases. A familiar theme or shared franchise name does not guarantee matching reels, prize types, feature costs or return settings.
| Game or family | What to distinguish | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Mega Moolah | The original game and later titles using its jackpot name. | Read the exact pool and qualifying-wager rules. |
| 9 Masks of Fire | The Gameburger title and separately named editions. | Use the complete suffix, studio and paytable. |
| Immortal Romance | The original, Immortal Romance II and later releases. | Do not transfer one version’s features to another. |
| Thunderstruck | Thunderstruck II and newer franchise entries. | Match the title on the game screen to the review. |
Mega Moolah: identify the game as well as the network
Our Mega Moolah review concerns the classic game. A different title carrying Mega Moolah branding can have another base game and different feature interactions.
The pool name is not permission to assume identical qualifying stakes or bonus eligibility. The current game help should establish which prize tiers are available and what contributes to participation.
9 Masks of Fire: a studio credit matters
Games Global’s product listing credits 9 Masks of Fire to Gameburger Studios and separately lists 9 Masks of Fire King Millions. Those are more useful identifiers than a broad Microgaming filter.
The 9 Masks of Fire guide helps identify the original. Check the suffix before comparing an award, screenshot or feature described on another page.
Immortal Romance: original and sequel
Stormcraft’s franchise list separates the original Immortal Romance, Immortal Romance II and later releases. Its Immortal Romance II product page describes a 243-ways base game, Rolling Reels and a separate 1,024-ways Wild Desire feature.
The same product page publishes 96.30% RTP for that described release. It is one product specification, not a provider-wide average or confirmation that an NZ operator supplies that configuration.
Thunderstruck: keep the full title
Our Thunderstruck II review should not be read as a review of every later Thunderstruck title. Stormcraft’s separate Stormchaser page illustrates how the franchise continues through differently named products.
Use the games hub to find a relevant review. We do not treat a published developer catalogue as proof that all those games are accessible from a particular NZ casino account.
RTP, volatility and feature rules
There is no verified single RTP band that describes every game associated with the Microgaming name. Read the exact loaded game’s theoretical return and note which edition and settings the figure concerns.
Return is not a session refund
For a hypothetical game with 96% RTP, the corresponding house edge is 4%. On $1,000 of total stakes, that represents a $40 mathematical average loss under those assumptions. It is not a $40 limit on what one session can lose.
A deposit is also different from turnover. Money returned on earlier rounds can be staked again, so the sum wagered can exceed the amount initially paid into the casino.
Award frequency and volatility are different
RTP does not state how often a game returns any award. An amount smaller than the stake can count as a displayed win while still leaving the balance lower after the round.
Volatility concerns how returns vary. A game described as high volatility can produce long losing sequences and occasional larger awards, but the label does not schedule a win or make a jackpot due.
Read the full stake
Check whether the control shows a total round price, a coin value or one part of a larger wager. Optional feature settings and additional jackpot charges can change the cost.
With invented figures, a $0.20 base stake plus a $0.01 additional participation charge costs $0.21 per round. One hundred rounds then represent $21 of stakes before returns. These are illustrative units, not a published charge for a named game or a statement of NZD pricing.
Features are specific to their release
Ways-to-win numbers, expanding reels and wild multipliers describe mechanics; they are not standalone measures of value. A game with more ways is not automatically more likely to produce a profitable session.
Read how a feature triggers, what it costs and whether its prize is cash, a multiplier or a pool award. An in-game free-spins round is also different from a casino’s promotional free-spin allocation.
Maximum wins and settings need units
A maximum expressed as a multiplier is not the same as a cash jackpot. A hypothetical 5,000× award at a $0.20 total stake represents $1,000, subject to the rules defining that multiplier and stake. It is a possible upper award, not a likely result or a promise of a withdrawable balance.
Check whether an advertisement quotes the base game, a purchased feature or a special mode. Two figures can describe different settings of a product without being directly comparable. Do not add them together unless the game explicitly explains that they are separate awards.
Keep a simple record of the edition
If you are comparing information, note the full title, studio, client version where shown, return figure and relevant mode. This helps distinguish a genuine rules difference from an old screenshot or a review of another release.
For example, a review describing one character feature does not establish the cost of a sequel’s buy option. A named jackpot in the same franchise can also have a different participation mechanism. Read the loaded help before treating another page’s details as applicable to your account.
Quieter times and longer sessions are not winning systems
There is no verified basis here for claiming that fewer people online improves a player’s results. For independent random rounds, earlier losing outcomes do not establish that the next result must compensate for them.
Playing longer creates more exposure to wagers and losses. Understanding a paytable can prevent a misunderstanding, but it does not turn a negative-expectation game into a reliable source of income.
Compare the operator separately from the game provider
The table below contains our four featured casinos’ general welcome offers. We have not verified an NZ account catalogue containing the games discussed here at all four operators. This is not a provider-availability guarantee.

Ripper offer limit: its general rules state a maximum qualifying deposit of $200 unless an offer says otherwise. At 250%, that would produce a $500 bonus; the $2,500 welcome headline alone does not resolve the difference. Confirm an express override in the active offer terms before relying on the headline maximum.
A software name does not establish a payment route
Casino account currencies, available funding methods and cashout arrangements belong to the operator and its payment services. A game supplied through a particular platform does not establish support for NZD, Bitcoin or every digital wallet.
Our NZD guide and payment overview cover those checks. Read the currency code rather than assuming that every dollar figure in a game or bonus is an NZ dollar amount.
Use the relevant casino review
The Fair Go, Ozwin, Ripper and Uptown Pokies reviews describe their published terms. Check the full title in the actual lobby if one game is essential to your choice.
An old review or a provider logo cannot confirm a present account-specific catalogue. If the title is unavailable, funding an account does not create access to it.
Bonus contribution is another separate rule
A promotion can exclude a game, provider category or progressive feature even when the game is available for cash play. Read the issued coupon’s eligible games, contribution, maximum stake, expiry and cashout conditions.
For illustration, a $20 deposit and $20 bonus subject to 30× deposit-plus-bonus wagering require $1,200 in eligible stakes. That is turnover, not a further deposit or a guarantee of completing the requirement. The bonus guide explains the calculation.
Licensing is not inherited from a supplier
DIA’s player information describes the 2026 transition and anticipated NZ licences from early 2027. We have not verified issued NZ licences for the four featured casinos.
A supplier’s business history, a testing logo or a casino’s ability to load a game is not evidence of an operator’s NZ licence. Check the current official position and the actual operator separately.
Progressive pools and named jackpot prizes
Jackpot is not a single technical specification. A named award can be a growing pool, a fixed cash amount or a multiple of the stake. The funding and trigger rules should tell you which arrangement applies.
Read eligibility before the headline amount
Check the relevant tier, total wager, balance type and any opt-in or extra participation setting. There is no general instruction to bet maximum across every game.
A higher stake costs more and does not guarantee a prize. Where the rules describe stake-dependent eligibility or chances, read that exact condition without extending it to the rest of the catalogue.
A meter does not predict the next winner
A rising progressive value shows a pool amount under the system’s rules. It does not by itself establish that your next spin is more likely to win. A historic screenshot is not a current NZD counter.
Some systems have explicit boundaries or special award mechanisms. Those must be stated in the relevant rules; do not infer them from an unusually large number or a long period without a reported winner.
Promotions and payouts still need their own checks
Uptown’s terms, for example, exclude progressive games from promotions unless specified. A general welcome offer therefore cannot establish permission to use one on a particular jackpot game.
After a displayed award, distinguish the game result, account credit and approved withdrawal. Our progressive jackpots guide and casino jackpots overview explain pool structures and payment questions in more detail.
Mobile, demos and a useful final check
A mobile-friendly title still depends on the exact client, browser, device and connection. We do not promise flawless operation on every phone or treat the supplier name as proof of compatibility.
Check the controls before using cash
Where an accessible demo exists, locate the help, full stake, balance and exit controls. Check whether rotation changes the layout and whether important text remains readable.
Demo credits have no withdrawable value. A successful practice load does not verify real-money access, identical settings or a particular bonus. Our free-play guide and mobile guide explain those distinctions.
Handle interrupted rounds through the recorded result
If a game disconnects, do not assume that the animation determined the final outcome. Check the game history and account ledger, then use verified operator support with the round reference if the records do not explain it.
Keep the full title, time, currency and reference. Do not submit repeated stakes just to test whether an earlier round settled.
Set boundaries independently of the features
Collection meters, unlockable themes and a familiar franchise can encourage continued play. Decide spending and time limits before a session rather than letting an unfinished feature become a reason to add money.
You can stop without completing a promotion or waiting for a jackpot. Our Responsible Gambling page links to independent NZ support and practical exclusion options.
Microgaming pokies FAQs
Is Microgaming still an active name?
Yes. When checked on 29 October 2026, the original Microgaming website redirected to an active Microgaming site with current games. Games Global’s 2022 acquisition of distribution, game IP and a progressive network is also relevant. Use the exact game and supplier details rather than treating every historic reference as identical.
Are Microgaming, Games Global and Apricot the same thing?
They should not be used as interchangeable labels. Games Global announced its acquisition in May 2022, Apricot describes its casino platform business, and the current Microgaming site presents a game portfolio. A studio credit, distribution relationship and operator account are different parts of the service.
Do all Microgaming pokies have an RTP between 96% and 98%?
No blanket range is established for every title and configuration. Read the theoretical RTP in the exact loaded game’s help. A quoted percentage is not a session refund, a win frequency or a guarantee that you will recover a stated share of your deposit.
Do the four featured casinos carry every Microgaming game?
We have not verified an NZ account catalogue containing the named games at all four featured casinos. Their general welcome offers are included for comparison, not as proof of Microgaming availability. Check the full title, credited studio and accessible real-money edition before depositing.
Can a demo show how a Microgaming game works?
An available demo can explain controls, stake settings and features. Its credits cannot be withdrawn, and its results do not predict a cash session. Check whether the demo and real-money client use the same edition and configuration rather than assuming they match.
Are all jackpot prizes progressive?
No. A jackpot label can describe a fixed award, a stake multiplier or a growing pool. Read the exact title’s funding, eligibility and award rules. A sequel or King Millions edition should not inherit the assumptions made about the original game.
Does playing at quieter times improve my results?
There is no verified basis here for a quieter-time winning strategy. For independent random rounds, earlier losses do not make a win due. Playing longer creates more exposure to stakes and losses; it is not a reliable way to make a game profitable.
Does Microgaming decide whether I can deposit in NZD or Bitcoin?
The operator and its payment arrangements determine available account currencies, deposit routes and withdrawals. A game provider’s name does not establish NZD balances or cryptocurrency support. Check the cashier and applicable rules separately from the title’s symbols, features and theoretical return.
