Blue Moon pokie review for New Zealand players

Blue Moon’s WMS game combines moon symbols with a free-spin feature, but the trigger is more specific than “two moons anywhere.” The provider matters too: other studios use the same name for games with different rules.

This guide explains the historical WMS reference, shows how to read stakes and awards, and separates verified game information from claims about present NZ casino availability.

Identify the Blue Moon game first

The artwork below belongs to the WMS review maintained on this site. The strongest detailed reference we found is a Gaming Laboratories International summary hosted by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. It is dated November 2009, making it a historical rules reference rather than evidence of a current New Zealand release.

A historical document can clarify how a named version works. It cannot establish that a casino still stocks that version, accepts your account or uses the same stake settings. Read it alongside the help in the game client you can actually open.

Keep these Blue Moon titles separate
ProductWhat distinguishes it
WMS Blue MoonThe historical reference used for the main rules section below.
Impera Blue MoonManufacturer describes five reels, 25 fixed lines and Reel Refill.
IGT Outgrow – Blue MoonA separate Outgrow product with sticky-wild and respin features.

Impera’s own Blue Moon page describes a fruit game with a three-moon trigger and extra star scatters during free games. That is not a reason to rewrite the WMS feature as a generic three-scatter bonus.

IGT’s Outgrow – Blue Moon page describes growing or locking wilds, a respin feature and second-chance choices. It lists New Zealand among its markets, subject to approval and configuration conditions. That manufacturer listing does not confirm an online lobby or a particular venue’s current stock.

When searching, include the studio name. Save the complete title shown in the information screen rather than identifying a game from a moon icon alone. A supplier logo, a screenshot and a rule sheet that all refer to the same product are much more useful than an unlabelled “play Blue Moon” button.

WMS Blue Moon: the referenced rules

The GLI report, pages 22–23, describes five reels with several line configurations. Day and Night moons are wild except for the Blue Moon mystery symbol; that symbol reveals another symbol on reel two. Line and scatter results require adjacent reels from the left.

Two or more qualifying Day/Night moons trigger the feature. The report gives these awards:

Historical WMS free-spin awards
Qualifying moonsFree spins
25
310
420
550

Feature wins double except five Day or five Night moons. The line selection and line stake stay at the triggering settings; retriggers are possible.

Apply the rules to the version in front of you

This summary is deliberately tied to that reference. If a loaded game gives different instructions, do not combine the two sets of rules or assume the newer screen is wrong. Note the product name and ask the operator which help file applies to it.

Position and symbol count are separate checks. Counting highlighted icons does not replace reading where the game requires them to appear. The completed result and its recorded award are better evidence than an animation stopped halfway through assessment.

Understand the award before converting it to dollars

Free-spin counts and money multipliers measure different things. Ten awarded spins are ten rounds; they are not a promise of ten dollars, ten wins or ten times your deposit. A multiplier applies to an eligible award under the relevant rule, not automatically to every number on screen.

A doubling example

For an imaginary ordinary award worth $0.40 before an applicable 2x multiplier, the calculation is $0.40 × 2 = $0.80. If a display already shows the final $0.80, applying the multiplier again would wrongly turn it into $1.60.

Keep the paytable value, stake unit and final credited value separate when checking a result. The example explains arithmetic only: it does not quote a Blue Moon symbol prize or say how frequently an award occurs.

Line stake versus total stake

Consider a hypothetical game with 30 active lines and a two-cent stake per line. Its complete spin costs 60 cents. A paytable amount defined as 20 times the line stake would be 40 cents; it would not be 20 times the full 60-cent spin cost.

Conversely, if an award is explicitly expressed as a multiple of the complete stake, the full spin cost is the relevant starting point. These examples show why reading the unit matters before multiplying. A large credit number can look impressive while representing a much smaller cash value.

Feature totals and session results

A feature screen often concentrates attention on money won during that event. Your session result also includes earlier paid rounds and any later spending. For illustration, a $12 feature after $20 of net losses still leaves an $8 loss if nothing else changes.

Record the final balance rather than judging the session by the largest animation. If the original deposit was $30 and the remaining withdrawable balance is $22, the difference is an $8 loss before any fees. Neither an exciting feature nor a long sequence changes that arithmetic.

If a result needs checking, keep the round reference, currency, total stake, relevant paytable and completed award. A clear description gives support something specific to investigate. Repeatedly placing more bets does not clarify an earlier round.

Bet sizes, RTP and payout claims

We have not verified one universal stake range, maximum cash prize or RTP for a currently available NZ version. The old review’s $0.01–$5 range did not clearly distinguish a line stake from a complete spin. Its $5,000 prize and 92.04% return also lacked a matched current rule sheet.

Those figures should not be presented as promises for every product called Blue Moon. Check the account currency and the game’s own information before treating an overseas dollar amount as NZD. A casino deposit minimum is a different number again.

What a line stake can cost

Illustrative 30-line costs, not confirmed game limits
Stake per lineComplete spin cost
$0.0130 × $0.01 = $0.30.
$0.0230 × $0.02 = $0.60.
$0.0530 × $0.05 = $1.50.

These are sample calculations, not proof that all versions have 30 selectable lines or offer these denominations. The amount next to the spin control should settle the actual cost before a round begins. Recheck it after changing lines, denomination or device orientation.

Our NZD guide covers account currency, and the minimum-deposit guide covers funding requirements. Neither replaces the selected game’s total-bet display. An inexpensive-looking credit unit can still add up across many lines and repeated rounds.

RTP describes a long-run average

The UK Gambling Commission’s RTP explanation distinguishes a long-run percentage from a return promised in one session. We use it for the mathematical concept, not as evidence of permission for a New Zealand-facing operator.

As a hypothetical example, 96% RTP corresponds to a 4% theoretical house edge. Over $100 of accumulated stakes, that represents a long-run average loss of $4. It is not this review certifying Blue Moon at 96%, and the outcome of a short session can be very different.

Total stakes can exceed the original deposit when returned funds are played again. For example, 100 paid spins costing 30 cents each create $30 of turnover, regardless of how many separate deposits funded them. Keep turnover, cash added and final balance distinct.

Volatility and maximum wins

A volatility label describes variation, not an appointment for the next feature. Without verified information for the actual version, we do not invent a feature frequency, average bonus return or ideal number of spins to wait.

A top-prize number also needs its basis. Is it a credit amount, a multiple of line stake, a multiple of total stake or a separate jackpot? Until that is clear, converting it to a fixed NZD headline creates a false impression of what is available.

Our casino jackpots and progressive jackpot guides explain broader prize formats. A similarly named game having a jackpot does not transfer that prize to the WMS version. Read the actual prize description rather than inferring it from the name.

Free Blue Moon play and mobile checks

A demonstration can help you explore a menu, inspect line diagrams and follow an award without using a cash balance. First establish that the demo is the correct studio’s game. A page with the right title but different symbols may be demonstrating an entirely separate product.

We have not verified a working official NZ demo for this WMS title, so this page does not promise an instant embedded game. The free pokies guide explains demonstrations and virtual balances. A video of someone else playing is a useful visual reference, but it is not a playable trial or a record of your own outcome.

What practice can and cannot establish

Learning where the information button sits is practical. Seeing several wins in virtual play is not evidence that a paid session will perform similarly. A short sample does not certify an RTP setting or establish a casino’s ability to pay withdrawals.

A social app, a demo and a casino promotion can all use the words “free spins” while referring to different things. Check whether credits have any cash value, whether purchases are optional and whether real account conditions apply. Do not assume that a large virtual balance is money you can withdraw.

Before using a phone or tablet

Readability matters more than a claim that every game is mobile friendly. Check whether you can see the provider, total stake and full rules on your screen. Open and close the help panel, then look at the chosen stake again before continuing.

Our Android, iPhone, iPad and mobile guides cover device questions. We have not tested every operating system or promised that an old client works on every browser. If a game fails to load, confirm support with the operator before depositing specifically for it.

Use a trusted distribution route rather than installing an unrelated app because it shares the Blue Moon name. If play is interrupted, keep the round details and ask support about the recorded result. Starting another paid round is not a substitute for resolving an uncertain one.

Check the account as well as the game

A casino can stock other WMS-related content without offering this particular title. Ask a specific question: is this game available to an account registered in New Zealand, and which version is it? A provider badge by itself is not a complete answer.

Check the deposit and withdrawal methods, account currency, identity requirements and any relevant restrictions. Our casino review guide and payment-method guide explain those checks. A payment logo alone does not establish a casino’s licensing status or confirm a withdrawal route for your account.

If you choose an optional promotion, read the eligible games, contribution rate, maximum permitted stake and expiry. A game appearing in the lobby does not mean it contributes to every offer. The bonus guide explains the difference between a match amount and a withdrawable balance.

We have removed this review’s old calls to register at Ruby Fortune, Gaming Club and Jackpot City. Those brands were retired from the website’s NZ recommendations. Their previous placement did not establish current Blue Moon access and should not be treated as a live game-availability check.

Who might prefer this game format?

The WMS reference may interest a reader who likes a compact feature table and wants to understand how ordinary awards differ from bonus play. The key is being comfortable reading a positional trigger rather than assuming familiar scatter rules apply.

Someone who wants one readily verified current specification may find the name confusing. Our assessment is that identifying the exact product comes before comparing payout headlines. An accessible help screen is more useful than a review that makes every version sound interchangeable.

For other mechanics, compare Big Red, 9 Masks of Fire or Ancient Fortunes: Zeus. They are separate games with their own rules. Our Best Pokies Games hub brings the individual guides together.

Keep a clear spending limit

Choose an affordable entertainment amount and stopping time before placing paid bets. A smaller stake can slow spending, but it does not make a feature inevitable or guarantee that a balance lasts. Keep essential spending separate from gambling money.

Do not increase stakes to recover earlier losses or because the next spin feels due. If it is becoming difficult to stop, use available limits, a time-out or self-exclusion, and visit our Responsible Gambling page for independent New Zealand support.

Blue Moon FAQs

Which Blue Moon game does this review cover?

The main review covers the WMS title illustrated on this page. It also distinguishes separate Blue Moon products from Impera and IGT. Check the provider and full title before applying any rules.

Will two moons anywhere trigger the WMS feature?

No. The historical WMS reference requires qualifying moons on adjacent reels beginning at the left edge.

Are all WMS Blue Moon free-spin wins doubled?

The reference makes an exception for five Moon Day or five Moon Night symbols. Check the exact version’s help.

Is 92.04% a verified universal Blue Moon RTP?

No. We have not matched that percentage to a current NZ-accessible version. Read the RTP information for the actual game you load; a historical game description does not certify its current configuration.

Does a 30-line game cost one cent per spin?

Not necessarily. A one-cent line stake across 30 active lines costs 30 cents in total. Confirm whether a displayed amount is per line or for the entire spin, and check the account currency.

Is IGT Outgrow – Blue Moon the same game?

No. IGT publishes it as a separate product with its own features and jurisdiction conditions. Its sticky-wild and respin descriptions should not be copied into the WMS review.

Can I play Blue Moon at the four featured casinos?

This page does not confirm the WMS game in their NZ lobbies. The casino table contains general offers. Check the full title, provider and account eligibility before depositing specifically for this game.

Can free play prove that a cash session will win?

No. Demo credits are not cash winnings, and a sample session cannot establish a later result. Use free play to understand the interface and rules, while keeping a separate limit for any real-money spending.

Sources and review approach

This review uses the historical GLI reference, current manufacturer descriptions for the separate titles and the linked RTP explanation. We have not completed a personal deposit, withdrawal or cash-play test. Historical overseas documentation does not establish a current NZ licence or lobby.
